Lancashire and Cheshire Rover Owners Club committee wishes to explain, in basic terms, its decision to
refrain from hosting any off road events until the foot and mouth crisis is finally over. The committee wishes its members
to understand fully why this decision has been made (after much deliberation and discussion) and on what basis.
This follows advice and guidance presented by the ARC (Association of Rover Clubs) and should be applied to any and all
attempts to hold a club event.
For an event t be considered, the club must ask itself the following questions. If the answer is not the same as those given, then
the event should not be held.

L+C Club member, Mandi, previously owned a Suzuki Vitara but for a number of years dreamed of owning a Discovery.
As the prices fell, the dream increased - but not wishing to purchase a vehicle that would need 'attention' Mandi waited until
the right disco came up. This was to be in the shape of a 3 door G reg in her local Landrover main dealership...

The Discovery was first purchased in 1990 by a Lady who owned a brake service business.
The Disco was for her use to tow her horsebox and as such was maintained to a very high standard until
2000 where it was part exchanged for a new TD5 model.
Although a high mileage, the disco had a single loving owner from new, and a (more than) full service history - not to mention being
in mint condition both inside and out - this was the vehicle Mandi had been waiting for. The measly amount of money
was gathered and paid, and the vehicle driven home by a girl with a very big grin...

Since that day, G434 has been granted a new set of tyres, heavy duty rear springs, and bullbar/spots which are to
eventually be replaced with an a-frame. Security features are those of a Tracker alarm and tyre deflators.
The interior is still as genuine and as mint as the day of manufacture, and at present,
the furthest the vehicle has been driven is North Wales for family visits. Sadly (or not, as the case may be) it has
never ventured off road. G434 is a perfect example of the original 200 series Discoveries.

| August 2001 LAND ROVER NEWS Land Rover has launched a limited edition Defender to coincide with the release of the action-adventure film Tomb Raider. Whilst lacking the V8 power of the film version some 250 TD5 powered Defender Tomb Raider LEs will be produced either as Defender 90 Station Wagon or 110 Double Cab models with every example produced in Bonatti grey. This special model went on sale in Dealerships on 6th July. A new limited edition of Range Rover, the Range Rover Bordeaux is now available through the Land Rover Dealer network. There will be 200 produced in Alveston Red paintwork with colour detailed 18-inch Pro-Sport alloys. There will be 100 4.0 litre petrol automatics and 100 2.5 litre diesel automatics. On the road price is £38,995 "WILL" GOES TO PINEWOOD It all began with a phone call from Mike Gould in the LAND ROVER Press Office, shortly after the Heritage Motor Centre Run. Mike had received a request from Carlton T.V. to provide a classic Land Rover for some filming at Pinewood Studios, and passed on the request to me. I spoke with the researcher who was asking for the Land Rover, to get some idea of what was required. They wanted either a late Series One or early Series Two and my rusty geography told me that Pinewood Studios was somewhere in Buckinghamshire. One phone call to Brian and Catriona Crelling, (Bucks-Herts- North Hants Area Organisers for Series Two Club and it was arranged they would take their Series Two 88" "Rag-Top" named "Will" to Pinewood for filming. The name incidentally, so I am told, came about because whenever they go to start they wonder "will it or won't it?" They spent more than half a day at Pinewood with presenter Mike Rutherford, filming both inside the Studios and outside on an off-road track They also had a the opportunity to have a good look at Land Rover's latest special edition, the "Tomb Raider Defender", which also features in the film. The finished production will appear in Carlton Television's "Pulling Power" series of programmes, which examines the great British marques, such as Land Rover, Mini, M.G. etc. Also in the Land Rover programme will be scenes filmed at Gaydon, on Land Rover Marque Day and also at the Dunsfold Collection. CLUB EVENTS Just in case you hadn't heard the Wye and Welsh Land Rover Club have had to announce the cancellation of the Baskerville Challenge 2001 (August Bank Holiday weekend) due to Foot and Mouth Disease and Midland Rover Owners Club have cancelled the Majors Memorial Trial to have been held at Eastnor on 8th/9th September also due to FMD restrictions. BALA 2001 24th to 27th AUGUST The North Wales Land Rover Club has confirmed that it is optimistic that it will be able to run its popular interclub weekend at August Bank Holiday. Planning for the event started long before the current foot and mouth outbreak began but as things progressed the situation has become far more serious. The Club is liasing with all the relevant authorities and the local community and will not hesitate to cancel the event if that is what is advised. In order to assist with event planning and to enable an accurate risk assessment to be prepared, the Club would welcome prospective entrants and attendees contacting the Club. Subject to foot and mouth requirements, on offer will be Scenic Drives, a TYRO trial, a CCV Trial, an RTV Trial, adventure drive, bike trial and a dog show.
